How to Create a Stand-Out CV: Essential Tips and Advice

Did you know that a potential employer will spend less than 30 seconds scanning a CV? That's why it's crucial to make your CV stand out from the crowd. In this blog, we'll discuss how to write a clear and concise CV that showcases your key skills and helps you land your dream job.

Personal Profile

To keep your CV concise, it's best to split it into several sections. The first section is your personal profile, which is the most important part of your CV. It's a short paragraph where you introduce yourself, highlight what you can offer, and state what you're looking for. If you nail this part of your CV, the reader will be engaged and read on.

Key Skills

The next section is your key skills, where you demonstrate your knowledge and experience within your chosen field. This can include hands-on technical skills, experience with certain software, as well as soft skills and personality traits. If you have a relevant degree or certification, highlight it here. Use bullet points to keep your statements concise and make it easy for the reader to pick out relevant information.

Work History

The work history section comes next, where you start with your most recent role and work backward. Ensure that your employment dates are correct and add up, and explain any gaps with a short phrase such as "travel" or "injury."

Your current job role should be the most detailed one on your CV, and you should include your job title, company name, employment month/year, and a snapshot of what the employer does.

Use bullet points to outline your key responsibilities, projects, and achievements within the role. The longer ago the employment was, the less detail you need to provide.

Education

Lastly, there's the education section, where you highlight your highest achievement and any additional relevant certifications. Utilise the same template as before and include the qualification level, name of the university/college, and years of study.

All done... nearly!

After completing your CV, proofread it thoroughly, as it's the second most important part of a good CV. Use spell check and ask someone else to check it for you.... Lastly, check it again!

With these tips and tricks, your CV will stand out from the crowd and hopefully land you your ideal job.
